Earth Charter Community Summit
A free public event on October 11th


The Earth Charter in Marin invites you to be a participant at the Earth Charter Community Summit to be held in San Rafael on October 11th. Throughout the United States as well as India, Belgium, Scotland and West Africa, twenty-seven cities will be holding community summits on the same day.

The Earth Charter Community Summit will focus on local issues providing an informative and inspiring afternoon of discussion, sharing concerns and knowledge, and creative action plans to effect a positive change in our local and global community.

Discussion groups will be:
  • Earth Charter principles
  • Organic foods and native plants
  • Water and general sustainability principles
  • Education, teaching the Earth Charter in our schools
  • Media and peace
Our featured speaker is Charles McGlashan, an expert on the topic of sustainability. He is the Director of the California Environmental Dialogue, a plenary of 30 environmental policy leaders in the State of California. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Marin Municipal Water District and is Vice Chair of the Marin County Economic Commission. He is on the Board of Directors for Sustainable Conservation, City CarShare, Sierra Club Marin Group, the Marin Conservation League the Environmental Education Council of Marin and Sustainable Mill Valley, Sustainable Conservation, and more.

Place: Contempo Marin Club House, 400 Yosemite Avenue, San Rafael

Directions from North: 101, Lucas Valley/Smith Ranch Road exit, left under freeway onto Smith Ranch Road, past the movie theater, next right on Yosemite, go 4 blocks, right side, green roof.

Directions from South: 101, Lucas Valley/Smith Ranch Road exit, go right onto Smith Ranch Road, past the movie theater, next right on Yosemite, go 4 blocks, right side, green roof.
